What's new in NameBase version 3:

Date Reminders!  NameBase now reminds you of important dates.
Instantly view addresses and phone numbers as soon as you locate a record on the Grid. Addresses and phone number are instantly displayed below the Grid on the main NameBase screen. No need to display the View/Edit screen to see this information.
Changes to the sort order are now saved between sessions. If you like to sort your records by a field other than Last Name, (for example by Organization), NameBase now remembers this sort order each time you start the program.
Filters can now be saved. Now you can create queries to display custom sets of records, and save these queries for future use.
New 32-bit program. NameBase is now written using 32-bit code, taking advantage of modern programming tools and better multi-tasking. Because of this change, NameBase version 3 requires a 32-bit Windows operating system like Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT. Windows 3.1 users should stay with version 2.
New Reports.  A new Phone List Report and a new Date Report are included.
Easier method of rearranging columns on the Grid. Just click the heading of the column you want to move, then click on the new location.
Pocket-size report: A few people had problems printing the pocket-size report with certain combinations of printers and data. Two different methods of printing this report are now available, and a bug in the page length calculation has been eliminated.
Another change to the pocket-size report: You can now specify the format you want the names to print; either LastName, FirstName, MiddleName (like Paulick, Michael J.) or else FirstName, MiddleName, LastName (like Michael J. Paulick).
Change the background color of the main NameBase screen. You can choose any color you want. In addition to aesthetics, this is very helpful if you maintain multiple databases; you can set each one to a different color to avoid confusion.
Category lists have been left-justified for easier reading, as have field labels on the View/Edit screen.
There are now 6 phone number fields and 3 user-defined fields.
The "Printer Setup" option on the File menu now displays the standard Windows Print Setup dialog for switching and setting printers.
By pressing the Exit button, you can now end the program without an exit confirmation dialog box appearing.
Tool tips. When the mouse pointer is left on an object for a few seconds, a small box displays tips about using that object.
The export feature now lets you specify the file name and location of the text files you create.

Here are the changes that were made in NameBase version 2:

Print Preview.  You can now display all reports on your screen before printing. You can even zoom in or out on the report.
Customize the NameBase Grid on the main screen to look just the way you want it. Rearrange the columns on the Grid, and NameBase remembers these changes. Change the width of any column on the Grid, and NameBase remembers these changes too.
Add new records using data from any other record. The two new buttons named "Use as template" and "Clear template" on the View/Edit screen implement this feature. This is especially handy for changing the default values of the blue fields on the View/Edit screen. This saves a lot of work if you must add many similar records.
You can now scroll between records, add new records, and delete records on the View/Edit screen. These functions were only possible from the Grid screen before. The "Add New" button is especially handy for adding lots of records quickly. It even retains the values of the blue fields from the previous record, to save even more time.
When you resize the NameBase window, the grid grows and displays more records and more columns.
Added a feature that prevents the Organization field from printing if the address description has the word "Home" in it. This is great if you have both a home and work address for a person, and you only want the Organization to print with the work address.
If you set an option on the Category screen, each time you start NameBase it will automatically display the last category you were displaying (if any) when you ended the program.
Added a question mark icon for online help.
Added a "Printer Setup" option to the File menu. This is useful if you have more than one printer.
Added an option to automatically display the Category Assignment screen when you add a new record. This prevents forgetting to assign a new record to a Category, if desired.
Added a Category Assignment button to the View/Edit screen to easily assign Categories to existing records.
The Category screen now highlights the current category if one is selected.
Added an option to export data to an ASCII file for easier mail merge.
Added a new condensed report, which prints name, phones, and address all on one line for most records. This new report can fit about 70 people's records on one page.
Added a new 1/2 page landscape report, which can be trimmed to 8.5 x 5.5 inches.
Some reports can now be set to page break alphabetically by Last Name or Organization.
Added new menu options to assign many records to a Category and to remove many records from a Category, all at once rather than one at a time.  A real time saver.
The current date now displays on the View/Edit screen, next to the other dates.
You can now print multiple copies of the same label or labels. This is great for printing your own return address labels.
