What's new in version 2?

A lot!  Where do we start?

New print-preview feature for all reports.  No more wasted paper!  You can zoom in or out on reports to make them any size on your screen; show two pages at a time, scroll to any page, or show thumbnails of many pages at a time.  Why print to paper at all?

Searching is vastly improved, and includes searching by the new composer field, searching notes, and searching by new user-defined fields that can be used for any purpose you choose. There is a new "Find" feature to quickly jump to any artist, album or song in your list, simply by typing any part of the desired name or title.

All reports have been re-writtenYou can specify the title on all reports.  Reports now adjust page length automatically for different paper sizes. You can print reports using letter size, legal size, A4 size, etc.  Long lines now wrap instead of truncating.

Save reports to HTML or Adobe PDF files.  Print any range of pages.

Print CD labels (complete with song lists), in addition to the jewel case inserts it printed in version 1.  CD Trustee can now fit an amazing number of song titles on these labels, using small type. As always, no typing is required; just push a button.

MP3 support. Version 2 allows you to select MP3 files on a hard disk or on a CD, and automatically catalogs those files as an "album". It reads the artist and song name from the ID3 tag in the MP3 file, as long as this information exists in the file. If not, it uses the file name for the track title. In fact you can catalog any files, not just MP3 files.  Indicate just the disk and file type, and CD Trustee will find and catalog all files of this type on the entire disk.

Play MP3 or other sound files.  You can associate any songs listed in CD Trustee with any MP3 file on your hard disk, and play those songs by clicking on them.  This will start up Windows Media Player or another program you have associated with MP3 files.

Build playlists by selecting songs from your database, then play the songs in that list or perform other functions with them.  For example, CD Trustee will copy all the MP3 files associated with a playlist to a folder on your hard drive, in case you want to burn a CD containing just those songs. You can also create a new "album" in CD Trustee from the songs in a playlist.

View your album data in a table for quick changes to certain fields on many albums at a time, and sort this list in many different ways.  Great for filling in slot numbers, for example.  Global changes can also be made to data across your entire database.

You can view all albums added during any automatic lookup session. View just these albums on the main display, or view and print them in a report. This makes it easy to see or edit any albums you recently added.  You can also view only those albums added on any specified date.

Slot numbers and locations can now be assigned automatically as the CD is automatically added. The slot number will increment starting at whatever number you choose. Even if letters exist in the first part of the Slot number, the number portion will still increment.

A CD full of MP3 files can have 150-200 songs.  Do you have an "impossible" wish to print all song titles from a CD full of MP3s on a jewel case cover?  Version 2 does exactly that!  CD Trustee can now print song titles on both the front and inside jewel case cover, and just keeps printing cover pages until it prints all the songs.

If you print on both the front and inside cover, then turn the same sheet of paper over and feed it through the printer a second time, you can get more than 180 song titles on a single jewel case cover insert. It can fit about 45 songs on each of the 4 sides.

If you have even more songs on a CD, you can use two sheets of paper for 360+ songs. If you don't have quite so many songs on the CD, you can still print a front cover graphic or text, and use the remaining 3 sides of the folded cover to fit over 130 songs.

Even long titles fit, and will use two lines for a title if it is extremely long.  Printing includes the artist name in addition to the song name if the artist name for that track was filled in, as is usually the case when an ID3 tag exists in the MP3 file.

More new features:

Track/song order can be re-arranged using drag & drop on the track details screen.  Just click the new "Move tracks" button.

Jewel case and CD label printing is adjustable anywhere on the page.

Increased left margin on reports, for binding.

New database backup and restore file menu option.

Multiple database support.  The last database file opened is remembered and opened again the next time CD Trustee is started.

File Export now exports only the records that appear in the displayed list (if records are filtered).

The new "Find" feature quickly jumps to an artist, album or song in your list, simply by typing any part of the desired name or title.

Added a drop-down list of artists when adding track artist names.

These improvements represent an entire year of full-time work. The overriding goal is to always keep CD Trustee simple and easy to use.

Existing version 1 databases work fine with version 2.
